You don’t need to live near a massive national park or a remote wilderness reserve to truly connect with Canadian nature. While our country is famous for its vast landscapes, the natural world is thriving right in our backyard. Part of the core mission of Everyone Outdoors Together is helping Canadians discover the beautiful spaces right outside their own doors.
Every pocket of Canada has its own unique version of golden hour—that spectacular pocket of time right before the sun sets when the light hits the earth at a perfect angle. Connecting with the land is all about paying attention in these moments. It is about noticing the local birds settling down for the evening, feeling the temperature drop as the sun hits the horizon, and appreciating the diverse ecosystems that share our local spaces.
As we prepare for July 18, we encourage you to go on an exploration of your immediate surroundings. Walk a path you normally drive past, find a quiet bench, or explore a local green space you’ve never visited before. Look for a spot where you can comfortably sit, stand, or stretch as The Great Canadian Sunset or Midnight Sun Moment unfolds.
When we learn to see the beauty in our local environments, our relationship with the land deepens.
