As we invite everyone to step outside for Everyone Outdoors Together, we want to take a moment to acknowledge a difficult reality: many communities across Canada are currently being impacted by severe wildfires.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these fires, especially those who have been displaced and the dedicated first responders working tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Wildfire season has become an increasingly challenging reality across the country, with profound impacts on people, communities, ecosystems, and wildlife.
If you are planning to participate in this weekend’s events, please put safety first.
Your Pre-Trip Safety Checklist
Before heading out, make sure you take these critical steps:
-
Check the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI): Wildfire smoke can travel hundreds of kilometers. Ensure the air is safe to breathe before exerting yourself outdoors.
-
Follow Local Officials: Stay strictly informed about any current evacuation alerts or orders in your area or the area you plan to visit.
-
Know When to Stay In: If it is not safe to be outside due to smoke or fire proximity, please stay indoors. The outdoors will wait.
